The
Fugitive Unit consists of a Sergeant, a Corporal, and six Officers.
Members of the Fugitive Detail are responsible for the serving of
all felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants originating from within
the Fort Worth Police Department. They also respond to teletypes
and requests from other law enforcement agencies requiring the service
of arrest warrants; as well as the extradition and transfer of Fort
Worth Police Department prisoners arrested in other jurisdictions.
In 2004 the Fugitive Unit received 3,180 warrants and made 2,438
arrests.
The
Fort Worth Police Crime Stoppers coordinator is also under the supervision
of the Fugitive Sergeant. The Crime Stoppers program is a non-profit
organization dedicated to solving the unsolvable crimes in our community.
It is a cooperative effort between the citizens of Tarrant County,
the local law enforcement agencies and the local media of the Metroplex.
The goal is to generate anonymous tips from the community, which
solve felony crimes, apprehend wanted felons and make our community
a safer place for all.
Tarrant
County Crime Stoppers paid out over $91,000.00 in reward money in
2004. This number has grown each year due to the increase in the
number of calls received. In 2002, the program topped the one million
dollar mark for dollars paid out since the program’s inception,
over 20 years ago. The Fort Worth Police Department accounts for
approximately 60-70 percent of the program’s activity each
month.
