Fort
Worth Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
Mission
Statement:
Commercial
Vehicle Enforcement Unit will provide quality service to the community
through effective enforcement and positive interaction with the
transportation community and our citizens.
Supervised
by a sergeant, officers assigned to this enforcement unit are dedicated
to reducing commercial vehicle collisions through enforcement of
state and federal transportation laws. Officers are trained by the
Texas Department of Public Safety and are certified by the Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Administration in North American Roadside Inspection,
Hazardous Materials inspection, Cargo Tank
Inspections, and Motor Coach (Bus) inspections. Officers assigned
to this unit are also tasked with weight enforcement on interstate
highways, state highways and city streets.
Officers
assist the Traffic Investigations Unit during the investigation
of a
commercial motor vehicle collision that involves serious bodily
injury or death.
The
C.V.E. unit is very active in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance
and are members of the DFW Council of Safety
Professionals. Several times per month, officers conduct safety
inspections at trucking companies' request to ensure that trucks
are safe before they are driven. This program is voluntary and is
conducted at the company's facilities. Officers also conduct safety
education for companies and their drivers regarding load securement,
hours of service and numerous other safety regulations.
