Two Arrested In Violent Crime Spree

On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, Robbery and Homicide detectives began piecing together information regarding a witness description of a suspect vehicle being a teal green Dodge Stratus.  Detectives recalled the carjacking of a similar vehicle from Thursday, June 24 and began researching potential links.  Last night before midnight, detectives were canvassing the area looking for potential leads when they found a teal green Dodge Stratus being driven in the area of E. Long Ave.  Detectives contacted a marked patrol unit to assist them and as the police car arrived the Dodge sped off leading them on a pursuit that ended when the Dodge attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Braswell from Long Ave losing control and striking a parked semi-tractor and chain link fence.  The driver and the passenger were both apprehended after a brief foot chase.  The passenger, the driver’s girlfriend, was cited and released at the scene.  Incidentally, a Jeep Cherokee was following the Dodge before the pursuit ensued and pulled to the side of the road at the time patrol officers initiated the traffic stop on the Dodge.  It was determined that the driver of the Jeep was also connected to this crime spree. After interviews were conducted with the driver of the Dodge Stratus and Jeep Cherokee, we believe they are connected to multiple aggravated robberies that began on Thursday, June 24 as well as the shooting spree that occurred yesterday in the early morning hours involving three separate incidents.

The crime spree began on the morning of June 24, 2010, in the 1200 block of Woodland Ave when one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot a 31 year old male in the head after an argument.  That same evening the same suspect allegedly robbed a 22 year old male at gunpoint and took his 1998 Dodge truck from a convenience store located in the 3400 block of E. Belknap Street.  Once again on June 24, at approximately 9:00 p.m. this suspect allegedly carjacked a teal green Dodge Stratus from a 27 year old male at gunpoint at a local food store located in the 600 block of N. Riverside Drive.  On Monday, June 28, 2010, just after midnight two suspects allegedly robbed a 40 year-old and 49 year-old male at gunpoint in the 2800 block of Azle Ave.  One of the suspects pistol whipped the 40 year old victim.  On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at approximately 3:30 a.m. the two suspects allegedly committed a drive-by shooting in the 2600 block of Pearl Ave.  No one was injured after the suspects fired multiple rounds into the house. Also on June 29 at approximately 6:00 a.m., both suspects allegedly went to the 2700 block of Azle Ave where two Budweiser delivery drivers were getting ready to leave after making their deliveries.  One of the suspects allegedly shot a 29 year old delivery man in the neck and took his wallet.  This victim remains in critical condition at JPS Hospital.  Thirty minutes later, at approximately 6:30 a.m., these two suspects went to the Lowes in the 6000 block of Quebec where they allegedly attempted to rob a 53 year old male Lowes employee.  This victim ran while one of the suspects fired multiple rounds at him, just missing him. Furthermore, detectives believe that they are not only connected to the crimes above but they are also connected to a Capital Murder that was committed in Johnson County, possibly earlier that day, where a 61 year old female was found deceased as a result of a possible gunshot wound.  This is a Johnson County report number.  See the press conference video on our Facebook page.

NOTE:  At this time we are not releasing the names/photos of the two suspects due to the fact that we do not want to compromise the active criminal investigations. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
